War Hawks make outdoor debut at Hardin-Simmons Invite

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University track and field team opened the spring outdoor season with noteworthy results at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational on Saturday in Abilene.

Track Highlights:
  • Junior Nandhi Brown had two personal records on Saturday, finishing with a time of 28.14 in the women's 200 meter and a 16.30 in the 100 meter hurdles. In the latter, she finished second place and has the second-fastest time in all of NCAA Division III.

  • Sophomore Jayden Sloan and freshman Dazhaun Walton accounted for two of the top five spots in the 200m, with Sloan placing third with a personal-best time of 22.77. Sloan ranks atop the nation at the NCAA Division III level.

  • Walton had an impressive day with two personal bests, finishing fifth in the 100 meter at 11.29 and fourth in the 200 meter at 22.95.

  • Freshman Breauna Conner had a top 10 finish in the women's 200m, setting her new collegiate best at 28.07 to place ninth. Brown placed 11th with her 28.14 time, freshman Najwa Campbell had a time of 28.36 to place 13th and junior Kelby Tidwell finished 14th at 28.38.

  • The men's 4x400 relay 'A' team finished second with a time of 3:23.37, which ranks atop the national rankings. This team included Sloan, Jacob Williams, Michael Limones and Caleb Kwiatkowski. The 'B' team finished at 3:35.03, while the women's 'A' team placed fourth overall at 4:20.12.

Field Highlights:
  • The War Hawks have three national leaders on the field side, including sophomore thrower Ellie Ryan with a new personal best of 38.86m in the javelin. Ryan not only leads all of D3, but also won the event at HSU. Ryan also had a PR in the hammer throw (30.75m) to finish fifth.

  • McMurry currently has the top two men's pole vault marks in D3, led by sophomore Jayden Gonzales with a clearance of 14' 4.5". Freshman Rylan Rogers cleared the bar at 13' 10.5".

  • Senior Aaron Webb leads the nation with a mark of 1.90m, tying Michael White from Texas Lutheran at the HSU Invite.

  • Sloan added to his strong day on the track with a personal record in the triple jump, marking out at 13.67 meters to rank second in the nation and fourth in the meet.

  • Margo Mendoza led the women's discus with a mark of 33.87 meters. She also PR'ed in the javelin throw at 20.49m.

  • Sylvia Harmon led McMurry in the women's shot put and had a PR of 9.07m. Sutton Welch placed ninth in the men's shot put at 11.66m.

  • The women's high jump included freshman Bethany Wood, making her debut with a third place finish with a mark of 1.40m.

  • Freshman Losuria Webb-Barber had a mark of 10.24m to finish fifth in the women's triple jump.

  • Welch led McMurry in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 44.62m for a new personal best and a fourth place finish.
