Softball visits UTD for first road trip of 2020

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Softball takes to the road for the first time in 2020 as it continues American Southwest Conference play with a trip to UT Dallas for a three-game series Friday and Saturday.

Friday will feature a single game at 2 p.m., while the War Hawks and Comets will play a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. Live stats and video links will be available at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The War Hawks swept the University of the Ozarks in a three-game series to open ASC action at Edwards Field. McMurry won by scores of 4-0, 13-5 and 8-7.

HOW SWEEP IT IS: McMurry's sweep of Ozarks last weekend was the program's first ever series sweep in ASC play.

LONG BALL: McM hit five home runs in the series against the Eagles. Junior catcher Kelsey Ahart had two homers in the series finale, including the game winner in the sixth inning. Sophomore pitcher Camille Scott, junior second baseman Savannah Flinn and senior shortstop Mikayla Krause each had one homer. Krause's home run was a walk off grand slam, the second of her career.

AT THE PLATE: Ahart leads the War Hawks with a .533 batting average with three homers and eight RBIs. Junior third baseman Emily Michki is batting .304 with six RBIs, tied for second on the team with Krause. Junior Cayleigh England has come off the bench to start the year 6-for-7 at the dish.

A NEW HOPE: Senior pitcher Hope Schoeneman has been lights out in the circle for McMurry this season. In both of her starts, she has tossed complete game shutouts and has 17 strikeouts on the year and just two walks. She is the only pitcher in the ASC with enough qualifying innings to not allow an earned run.

IN THE CIRCLE: Schoeneman leads McM with a 0.00 ERA and a 2-0 record. Scott is 2-1 on the season with a 3.06 ERA. Junior Bekah Chance made her first appearance against Ozarks, and locked down the Eagles in the seventh inning of the 8-7 win to earn the save.

SCOUTING UTD: The Comets have been swinging the bats to start the season, leading the league with 119 hits for a .357 average and 58 RBIs. However, the Comets sport a 5.47 team ERA and have given up nine homers on the year, starting the season 3-8, 1-2 ASC. Three players are batting over .400 for UTD, while six are over .300. Nine players have at least four RBIs, with Avery Markley tallying three homers and 10 RBIs.

THE SERIES: UTD leads the series 3-0 after winning all three games in 2018. The teams did not play in 2019.
