Softball to open ASC play versus Ozarks

ABILENE, Texas – The home stand to open the regular season continues for McMurry Softball, with the War Hawks welcoming University of the Ozarks to Edwards Field for a three-game series to open American Southwest Conference play.

First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. with game two to follow approximately 30 minutes after. Saturday's singe game is slated for a noon start time. Live stats and video links will be available at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

LAST TIME: McMurry recorded its first doubleheader shutout sweep Tuesday, posting victories of 8-0 and 10-0 over University of the Southwest.

NO-HITTER: Sophomore pitcher Camille Scott threw the first no-hitter in program history Tuesday, tossing six scoreless innings in an 8-0 win over Southwest.

FIRST HOMER: Junior catcher Kelsey Ahart hit the first home run at Edwards Field Tuesday to cap the series in a 10-0 win in the nightcap. Ahart had two hits and three RBIs in the game.

SCHOENEMAN HONORED: Senior pitcher Hope Schoeneman was named the ASC West Pitcher of the Week after pitching a complete game shutout in Sunday's 1-0 win over Southwestern, the first game ever at Edwards Field.

3: The number of shutouts the War Hawks have pitched this season in four games, matching the total from all of last season. All three shutouts have come from a different pitcher.

AT THE PLATE: Ahart leads the War Hawks with a .571 average, a home run and four RBIs. Freshman Symone Gary is batting .500 while Scott is batting .429. Both Scott and Gary have one RBI.

BALANCED LINEUP: McMurry has received contributions up and down the lineup, with 11 different players collecting a hit through the first four games.

SCOUTING OZARKS: The Eagles went 1-3 on their opening weekend, batting .391 in the process. Sierra Jasna leads the team with a .467 average, while Tori Reiber has a team-high six RBIs. However, Ozarks struggles in the circle with a 5.07 team ERA.

THE SERIES: Ozarks leads the series 3-0 after sweeping the series in 2018. The teams did not meet in 2019.
