War Hawks to visit HPU in crucial ASC series

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Softball heads down the road to Howard Payne University this week, where the War Hawks will square off with the Yellow Jackets in a crucial three-game American Southwest Conference series.

The series begins with a doubleheader Thursday beginning at noon followed by game two. First pitch for Friday's single game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Live stats and video links can be found at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: McMurry took two out of three from visiting Louisiana College. After dropping the opener, the War Hawks bounced back with an 11-3 win in game two and a 9-5 win in game three.

GRAND WALK OFF: In the 9-5 win Sunday, shortstop Mikayla Krause hit a walkoff grand slam for the win. This came after first baseman Rachel Ripley tied the game earlier in the inning with a solo home run of her own.

PERFECT 10: McMurry scored 10 runs in the third inning of game two against the Wildcats to lead them to an 11-3 victory. The 10 runs are the most scored in an inning in the short history of the program.

AT THE PLATE: Ripley leads McMurry with a .382 batting average, seven home runs and 23 RBIs.

LAST 10: In the last 10 games, Ripley is batting .400 with a home run and six RBIs. Krause also has six RBIs and is batting .353 with a homer. In the circle, Emily Levario is 3-2 with a 1.68 ERA in five appearances in those 10 games.

IN A PINCH: McMurry's pinch hitters are batting .286 (12-for-42) this season, while the War Hawks have held opposing pinch hitters to just a .200 average (7-for-35).

SCOUTING HPU: The Yellow Jackets enter the weekend 13-19, 9-12 ASC, just two games ahead of the War Hawks for the final spot in the ASC Tournament. Kayla Hill leads HPU with a .388 batting average, six home runs and 21 RBIs. In the circle, Audrey Simpson has posted a 7-4 record and 3.91 ERA.
