ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Softball continues American Southwest Conference play Friday and Saturday by welcoming Sul Ross State University to Red Bud Park for three games.
Friday's doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. with first pitch for Saturday's single game slated for noon. Only Friday's games will have live video. All three games will have live stats, with all links available at mcmurrysports.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: McMurry took one game of the three game set at Mary Hardin-Baylor. After dropping game one, the War Hawks took game two before UMHB took the series win in game three.
AT THE PLATE: First baseman Rachel Ripley continues to lead the War Hawks in batting average (.355), runs scored (21), home runs (6) and RBIs (17). Right fielder Summer Quiroga is second with a .346 average with designated player Kasey Woolard second with 14 RBIs.
IN THE CIRCLE: Hope Schoeneman leads the War Hawks in the circle with a 7-6 record, 4.57 ERA and 43 strikeouts.
SECOND YEAR IMPROVEMENT: McMurry can tie and surpass last year's win total this weekend. One win will tie it, while two will top the inaugural season's 10 wins.
GETTING AHEAD EARLY: The War Hawks are 9-2 when they score first this season, compared to 0-12 when their opponent scores first.
SCOUTING SRSU: The Lobos are 9-14, 5-9 ASC after splitting a doubleheader at Howard Payne earlier this week. Payslee Sims leads the Lobos at the plate with a .387 average, while Gabriela Raimondi tops the team with 15 RBIs. Jodie Vaughn leads the Lobos in the circle with a 6-9 record and 2.81 ERA.
