NOTES

ABOUT LAST WEEK – In a game that saw 20 lead changes and 12 ties, the War Hawks fell in the final minutes of an exciting 79-71 game at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, Neb. last Saturday. McMurry led 58-57 at the end of the third quarter, but 14 free throws from the Prairie Wolves facilitated the home win. Skyler Reyna and Destiny Mathews both had double-doubles for McMurry.

"REYNING" PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Senior forward Skyler Reyna had 24 points and 16 rebounds against Nebraska Wesleyan in a tight game, earning her fourth career American Southwest Conference West Player of the Week award. Reyna has recorded double-doubles in nine of her last 12 games, dating back to last season.

REYNA RECORD WATCH – With 24 points in her last game, Reyna moved past Rebekah James (1979-82) for eighth in the all-time McMurry record books in career scoring. The senior forward now has 1,113 career points and needs 28 to move into seventh all-time.

YOUTH SQUAD – McMurry has 14 freshmen and one junior transfer on the 2019-20 roster, joining the returning senior duo of Sarah Doherty and Skyler Reyna and returning sophomore Brittany Rodgers. The average age of the team is 19.05 years old.

FRESHMEN PHENOMS – The War Hawks have a strong contingency of freshmen contributors … Destiny Mathews is second on the team with 41 points and 22 rebounds in 72 minutes this season … Making her college debut last week at NWU, Cassidy Melton had 12 points in 14 minutes … D'Asia White leads the team with nine assists, which ranks seventh in the ASC … Taya Bridges has been the difference maker on defense with a league-best six blocks, while adding five steals to rank second on the team.

SERIES HISTORY VS. TLU – McMurry leads the all-time series, 24-10. The most recent game came just two weeks back, with McMurry winning 76-62 at Kimbrell Arena. Despite immense success with the Bulldogs, McMurry has dropped its last three games in Seguin and seeks its first road win of the series since 2011.

SERIES HISTORY VS. SU – McMurry leads the all-time series, 27-11. All 11 of Schreiner's wins came prior to 2000, dominating the series in the 1980s and 1990s. But since the turn of the century, McMurry has won 25 straight games in the series. Prior to this year's 72-34 win in Abilene, the two squads have not faced off since the 2011-12 season. McMurry won the last contest in Kerrville by a final of 61-53 in 2012.

SERIES HISTORY VS. ABU – Arlington Baptist leads the all-time series, 4-0. All four games in this series have been played within the last five seasons. The last game between the two was in the 2017-18 season, as the Patriots were ranked No. 1 in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II poll and won 89-75. In 2015, the teams battled to double-overtime with McMurry falling 83-81.

SCOUTING TLU – The Bulldogs are scoring 57.0 points per game while allowing 74.0 PPG. Sophomore forward Morgan Rodriguez leads the team with 11.0 PPG, averaging 20.3 minutes per contest. Rodriguez scored a team-best 20 points against McMurry two weeks back. Junior guard Tara Molina has seen the most time on the floor with 34.3 minutes on average, leading the team by nearly eight minutes.

SCOUTING SU – The Mountaineers have been out of action for two weeks, last playing on Nov. 9 at Hardin-Simmons, an 84-50 loss, following their season opener with the War Hawks. Sophomore guard Gabby Ivarra leads the team in scoring, totaling 16 against HSU. McMurry's defense limited Ivarra to just two points on free throws and did not allow a double digit scorer.

SCOUTING ABU – The Patriots are off to a 2-3 start and look to continue their run as a perennial contender on the NCCAA Division II level. Arlington Baptist has played a number of tough programs in exhibitions, including Hardin-Simmons, where the Patriots fell 77-68 last Tuesday. Their last official game was a barn-burner with Univ. of St. Thomas in Houston, falling 100-95 in a high-scoring affair.
