ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's volleyball team won its third-consecutive match – also notching its third shut-out of the season – by defeating Sul Ross State University, 3-0, at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks (6-2) defeated the Lobos (3-6) by set scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-15.
All three of the wins during the skein have been versus American Southwest Conference schools, as well.
The McM attack was spread around as
Catherine Heath led all players with eight kills, followed by seven from
Audrey Sanders and six from newcomer
Autumn Quinn. Sanders had the top attack percentage a .583, with Quinn and
Elisha Libhart close behind at .500. As a team, the War Hawks hit .266 for the three sets.
Conversely, the SRSU squad was limited a .038 attack percentage. The War Hawks had five blocks as a team and produced 43 digs. Sanders had three blocks and libero
Jessica Cory had 14 digs.
McM rolled up 12 aces as a unit, seven alone off the arm of
Odalis Rodriguez. In set 1, Rodriguez served five-consecutive aces at one juncture. She also contributed eight digs on the defensive side.
Bethany Holub and
Katy Headrick each served up a pair of aces, as well.
Setters
Morgan Thomas and
Madison Fatheree combined for 35 assists. Thomas had 22 of the "helps."
The War Hawks will next host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday (Sept. 22) at 6 p.m.
