Boom Goes the War Hawk Bats Once Again

Box Score WAXAHACHIE, Texas – The "McMurry Power Company" – aka McM's baseball team – was open for business once again, as the squad won its fourth-consecutive game with a convincing 15-3 victory at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The War Hawks (7-3) pounded out 18 more hits in dispatching of the Lions (7-8).

McM has rolled up double-digit total in both runs and hits in each of the four games of its current win skein. During the win streak, the War Hawks have amassed 61 hits, while outscoring its opponents 49-15.

Thursday's outcome was never in much doubt, as McMurry scored two in the first and three-runs each in the second and third frames. McM added one in the top of the fifth to go ahead, 9-0. SAGU got all three of its runs off McM starter Mitch Labbie in the bottom of the fifth, but it would be the only chink in Labbie's armor this day.

Labbie (1-0) registered his first decision of 2015, throwing six innings and permitting the Lions six hits. Labbie struck out three and walked two.  Trevor Ragsdale finished off the game – getting six more runs of support from the War Hawks' bats – to earn the three-inning save, his first of the season. Ragsdale gave up just one hit and struck out three during his three scoreless innings of work.

McM head coach John Byington got plenty of pop from the top five batters in his lineup. Christian Simmons, Patrick Adams, Cody Howard, Mikal Hunter and Ben Douglas accounted for 13 of the team's hits, scored 12 runs and drove in 12 runs in the Nos. 1-5 slots, respectively.  Leadoff man Simmons went 2-for-4 with four runs scored and two walks, while Adams went 2-for-5 with three runs and a run batted in.

Three-hole batter Howard was 3-for-4, scored three times, drove in two and drew a pair of walks, as well. Clean-up batter Hunter had the huge afternoon, booking a 4-for-4 day at the plate with two runs and five RBI.

Douglas, the designated hitter, was 2-for-5 and drove in four runs.  McM's No. 9 batter – senior Kyle Sargent – was equally as dangerous to the Lions' staff, going 2-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Ricky Garcia , Howard and Hunter all laced doubles for McMurry.  Howard had a triple among his hits.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. to conclude the series.
