ABILENE, Texas – For the eighth time in 2015, the McMurry University volleyball team shutout its opponent with a 3-0 win over Jarvis Christian College. The War Hawks (11-5) defeated the Bulldogs by set scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-16 at Kimbrell Arena.
The dominating win by the McM team also enabled head coach
Cammie Petree (20th season) to rest many of her regulars and play all 17 available players on her roster in the match.
In all, nine McM players had three or more kills in the match. Reserves
Lauren Heathcote,
Taylor London and
Jasmine Jones each had five kills to pace the War Hawks offensive attack.
Kristen Zander,
Katy Headrick and
Elisha Libhart had four kills each.
As a team, McM had a sterling .479 attack average, led by London's .833 average (5 kills, 0 errors, 6 attempts) for the match.
McMurry also served up a total of seven aces. Freshman Odalis Rodrguez and senior
Jessica Cory each had two aces, while
Bethany Holub,
Megan Denison and
Madison Fatheree had one apiece.
Fatheree led McM with 14 assists and
Jessica Tennis chipped in 11 helps.
On the defensive half, McM held the Bulldogs to a 0.65 attack average for the match. The McM team had five total blocks.
Audrey Sanders had two assisted blocks and Headrick the lone solo block by the War Hawks.
McM will next play at the ASC crossover tournament on Friday and Saturday, being hosted at UT-Tyler. On Friday, the War Hawks face East Texas Baptist University at noon and then UT-Dallas at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the War Hawks will have a single match against Belhaven University at 3 p.m.
