Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – West Texas A&M University pounded out 21 hits and scored 15 combined runs and swept a Saturday afternoon doubleheader over McMurry University at Walt Driggers Field.
In game one of the twin bill the Buffs (6-2) pushed across five runs in the top of the fifth inning en route to a 6-0 win.
Mitch Labbie (San Mateo, Calif./Canada JC) was tagged with the loss. In 4 2/3 innings of work he allowed nine hits, six runs and four walks.
Ben Douglas (Moose Jaw, Sask./College of Southern Idaho) went 2 for 3, while
Eric Moritz (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill HS) and
Jeffers Rader (Dallas, Texas/Dallas Jesuit HS) each batted 1 for 3.
Joshua Weyker tossed a complete game for the Buffs. He allowed four hits, no runs, and one walk and struck out eight.
In game two of the doubleheader WTAMU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and cruised to a 9-2 win.
Eric Preuss (Brenham, Texas/Blinn JC) absorbed the loss for the War Hawks. In 4 2/3 innings of work he allowed five hits, six runs and two walks and struck out two batters.
Jeremy Ruiz (Paramount, Calif./Long Beach City College) finished 2 for 3 and
Greg Koll (Burbank, Calif./Pierce College),
Nick Marsh (Cypress, Texas/Cy Woods HS) and
Patrick Adams (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta HS) each collected a hit.
The War Hawks (2-7) return to action Feb. 21 and play host to Newman University.
