Box Score EDMUND, Okla. – A slow start doomed the McMurry women's basketball team, 75-42, at Oklahoma Christian University. It was the War Hawks' third-consecutive road game in a five-day span.
The loss dropped McM to 3-18 overall and 3-12 versus the Heartland Conference. The Eagles improved to 12-10 on the year and 8-7 within the league.
McM trailed at the half, 35-15, thanks to OC's stifling defense. For the game, the War Hawks shot just under 23 percent and were forced into 21 turnovers.
Sophomore guard
Sierra Maykus and freshman reserve guard
Katy Boren were McMurry's top scorers, registering eight points each. Maykus was 3-of-8 overall shooting and 2-for-5 from beyond the arc. Boren was 3-of-9 overall on field goals and went 2-for-6 from three-point range.
Senior
Keshia Collins was held to six points, just the fourth time this season she failed to tally double digit scoring. Collins also added a game-leading eight rebounds and passed off for two assists.
Ana Dominguez had three steals for McM. Dominguez and
Adijatu Disu scored four points apiece.
Tessa Ramirez and
Nicolette Erkman both booked three points, while
Taylor Russell,
Jaryn Koenig and
Tineka Lawson each contributed two points.
The Eagle shot nearly 44 percent (25-57) from the floor for the night. The hosts also out-rebounded the War Hawks by a 49-to-33 margin.
McM will be off until Saturday (1 p.m.), when it travels to Austin to face St. Edward's University.
