Women's Basketball Hopes to Reverse Results at Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. – McMurry University women's basketball will be looking for its second-consecutive win when it travels to face Oklahoma Christian University for the second time this season. In the first meeting between the Heartland Conference's two provisional members, the War Hawks (8-11) dropped a 69-54 decision to the Eagles (12-9) in Abilene.

OC has won three in a row – losing just once – since the team last faced each other. The Eagles have an 8-4 record on their own floor and are coming off of a double-overtime win (79-76) at Arkansas-Fort Smith last Saturday. In that game, Roz Hamilton led all scorers with 22 points and Katy O'Steen tossed in 19.

On the year, O'Steen leads the Eagles in both scoring (16.2 points per game) and rebounds (6.2 rebounds per game). She is also shooting better than 45 percent (111-245) from the floor nearly 81 percent (89-110) from the free throw line.

O'Steen and Hamilton share the team lead in blocked shots with 17 each.

Hamilton is OC's only other double-digit scoring average on the year at 12.0 p.p.g. Hamilton hauls in an average of 5.8 boards per contest, as well.

McMurry is coming off of a big win at home versus St. Edward's University (52-48), completing the season-sweep of SEU. Keshia Collin's 17 points led McM, with senior point guard Rikeita Thomas adding 15.  M.J. Vickers had a team-high eight rebounds and two blocked shots in the win.

On the season, Collins is at 13.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, leading those stats among the players available to head coach Dr. Veronica Snow. Collins also has 18 blocked shots and leads the Heartland Conference with 60 steals (3.2 s.p.g.).

Thomas follows at 9.4 p.p.g. and Bruffey has contributed 5.9 p.p.g. off of the War Hawks' bench. Bruffey is the team's top three-point threat with 19 FG's made in 60 attempts (31.7 percent) from long distance.

McMurry has four other players who all average 4.0 points per game or better in the team's balanced attack. Vickers, who has started the last five games, is at 5.7 p.p.g., followed by Jamie Wilson (4.6 p.p.g.), Tory Salazar (4.5 p.p.g.) and Jaryn Koenig (4.0 p.p.g.).

Sophomore Bridget Dorn has appeared in just six games due to injuries, but has amassed 10 blocked shots. She has also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 points in her games in the McM lineup.

In the last outing versus the Eagles, Thomas was the only player for either team to score in double figures with 12. Collins had a game-high 13 rebounds and five blocked shots, but was held to just four points.

OC leads the Heartland Conference in scoring offense at 75.3 p.p.g., but is last in scoring defense (allowing 72.6 p.p.g.). Conversely, McMurry ranks last in scoring offense (58.3 p.p.g.), but is fourth in defense (64.2 p.p.g.).

McM also tops the Heartland in three-point defense, allowing foes to shoot just 26.2 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles are last in that same category.

The Eagles and War Hawks are two of the more larcenous teams in the Heartland Conference. Oklahoma Christian averages 12.8 steals per game to lead the league, with McMurry in fourth at 10.1 thefts per game.
