Women's Basketball Can't Shake Rattlers, 61-50

Box Score
ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's women's basketball team had St. Mary's University on the ropes after the first half, but could not keep the visitors at bay in the second in a 61-50 loss at Kimbrell Arena.

The loss dropped the War Hawks to 9-13 overall, while the Rattlers improved to 18-6.

SMU led the bulk of the first half until the War Hawks' Keshia Collins tied things up on a short jumper at the 6:41 mark. Collins' bucket would send McM on an 11-2 run to close out the half and take a 32-25 into the halftime locker room.

Rikeita Thomas had eight of her 10 points in the game during the first 20 minutes. Collins and Wilson had seven points, each, in the opening salvo. The War Hawks team shot a blistering 50-percent (12-24) from the field in the first half.

But the McM team had to feel snake-bit in the second half as the Rattlers opened the stanza with an 11-2 run in a little more than three minutes and went ahead, 36-34. McM would not lead again the rest of the game. The War Hawks did get within a single point – 44-43 – after a pair of Collins free throws, but could get no closer.

As hot as McM was during the first half, it cooled down in the second. The War Hawks shot just 21 percent (6-28) from the floor, finishing the game at nearly 35 percent.

Collins led the McMurry team with 15 points, hitting 6-of-10 from the field. Collins also pulled down six rebounds in her 28 minutes of court time.

Vickers joined Thomas with 10 points as the only other McM players in double digits. Thomas matched Collins' total of six rebounds to top the McM squad.

Sophomore Bridget Dorn, while limited to just two points, grabbed five rebounds and had four of her team's five blocked shots.

McMurry did win the battle of the boards, 38-to-35, and out-scored the Rattlers' bench, 8-4.
