Women's Hoops Goes for Seventh in a Row

KERRVILLE, Texas – The McMurry women's basketball team will try to keeps its current win streak alive on Thursday evening with a road bout at Schreiner University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. and the game can be heard in the Abilene area on KZQQ 1560 AM.

The War Hawks (14-5, 12-3 ASC) have won their last six games in a row. That has vaulted the team into a second place tie in the ASC West standings, just ½ game behind first place Concordia-Texas (which McM has already defeated once this year).

Schreiner (6-13, 4-11 ASC) currently sits in fifth in the league standings.

The two teams shouldn't have too much scouting to do, as their first meeting of the season took place exactly one week ago. The Mountaineers had one game in between, while McMurry played twice since then.

When last they met, the War Hawks soared to a 65-41 win in Abilene. In that game, Schreiner's offense was led by 10 points from Olivia Swarner, while Keshia Collins topped McM with 16 points.

On the year, Swarner leads Schreiner's scoring at 10.9 points per game, while Bailey Harris checks in at 9.9.

Collins still ranks atop the War Hawks at 15.2 p.p.g. and 6.6 rebounds per contest. She is No. 4 in the ASC scoring and 15th in rebounds.

The McMurry team also boasts the current ASC West Co-Player of the Week in forward M.J. Vickers. Vickers, a junior, has had back-to-back 14-rebound games against Texas Lutheran and Hardin-Simmons.

Vickers is the second-consecutive ASC West Player of the Week from the War Hawks, with teammate Collins winning the honor the previous week.

NOTES:
McMurry's team has already clinched a spot in the ASC post-season ... M.J. Vickers' double-double versus TLU last Saturday came the same day the school honored her for being an All-America honorable mention player in volleyball (Vickers chose not to attend the volleyball national awards banquet because the women's basketball team had a game which she would have missed) ... Sophomore Keshia Collins has had double-digit scoring in 18 of 19 games this season (9 points vs. Howard Payne on Jan 12) … The War Hawks will be trying to equal their longest win streak of the season on Thursday, 7 games (11/26-12/19/2011).
