McM Men Look to Distance Themselves Versus Schreiner on Thursday

 
ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University – winners of four of its last five games and three straight – will try to extend its winning ways on Thursday evening versus Schreiner University, Tip-off at Kimbrell Arena is slated for 7:30 p.m.
 
The War Hawks (12-4, 8-4 ASC), currently in third in the American Southwest Conference West Division race, will be looking to widen the gap with the Mountaineers (10-7, 8-5 ASC), who are in fourth.
 
Schreiner had won two in a row before last Saturday's setback to Howard Payne, 86-72. Travis Pflughaupt is the team's scoring leader t 18.6 points per game, which ranks sixth in the ASC. Pflughaupt averages a double-double by also hauling in 10.8 boards peer game, as well.
 
A.J. Myres and Darren Smith check in at 15.6 and 15.1 p.p.g., respectively, for the Mountaineers.
 
McMurry will counter with defending ASC West “Player of the Week” in senior Stephen Jones. Jones' numbers heading into the weekend are at 17.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. His back-to-back double-doubles last week not only gave him the ASC weekly honor, but upped his season total to seven double-doubles overall (which ranks 28th in the NCAA III stats).
 
The War Hawks' team, as well as several individuals, were ranked prominently in the latest national statistics. McM is No. 1 in the country in rebound margin, pulling down an average of 18.4 more rebounds per game than does its opponents.
 
The War Hawks also rank 12th in assists per game (17.8), 13th in scoring offense (85.9 p.p.g.) and 15th in steals per game (11.2).
 
Individually, Bryce Hill is 13th in three-point field goals made per game at 3.2 and is 17thin three-point field goal percentage (44.4%). Bryant Taylor is 13th in assist-to-turnover ratio at a plus-2.82.  Point guard Jaden Isler is 19th in assists at 5.5 “helps” per game.
 
Hill and Isler also average in double figure scoring for the War Hawks. Hill is at 13.5 points per contest, while Isler books and average of 12.9 p.p.g.
 
Dominick Walker's 9.5 rebounds per game ranks third in the ASC stats, just behind teammate Jones in second.
