SEGUIN, Texas - The McMurry University War Hawks tied for fifth place with Southwestern University Monday and Tuesday in a 54-hole tournament in Seguin. The War Hawks shot a team-best 298 in the third round to jump two spots in the standings.

Newcomer Matt Porter led McMurry individually tying for ninth place with a three-round total of 219 (75-71-73). Garret Betts tied for 15th for the War Hawks with a 223 (74-77-72) and Dathan Lowe tied for 35th place (232-74-79-79).

Trinity University won the tournament with a three-round total of 869, Houston-Victoria shot an 869 as well, but the Tigers took the tournament in a playoff. The hosts, Texas Lutheran shot an 889 for third place, and LeTourneau finished fourth with an 898. McMurry shot a 301 in round one, 305 in round two and a 298 Tuesday to finish 36 shots off the lead.

The War Hawks return to action Monday and Tuesday with a three-round tournament in Tunica, Miss. at the Rhodes Collegiate Golf Classic.
