ABILENE, Texas – The usual suspects came away with the American Southwest Conference Track & Field Championships as the McMurry War Hawks men and the Texas Lutheran women repeated as conference champions Saturday at McMurry's Wilford Moore Stadium.

For the War Hawks, it was their 13th consecutive ASC Track & Field Championship while Texas Lutheran repeated for the first time and the Bulldogs and won their third title since 2005.

McMurry's men scored 295 points to outduel UT-Tyler's 242 point effort while TLU's 290 points bested the McMurry women's score of 171.5. All in all TLU took 11 events on the women's side while the McMurry men matched that number taking 11 of the 20 events.

Both teams shared top individual honors with head coaches Barbara Crousen (McMurry) and Patrick Zarate (Texas Lutheran) winning Male and Female Coach of the Year respectively, and the Bulldogs' Monique Anderson won Female Athlete of the Year and McMurry's Terry Smith was named Male Athlete of the Year.

McMurry cleaned up on relays and several short distance events taking both the 4X100-meter and 4X400-meter relays. Kenneth Turner won the 100 and 200-meter dashes while Smith took first in the 110-meter hurdles, second in the 400-meter hurdles, anchored the 4X400-meter relay and placed fifth in the high jump.

Anderson took victories in the 100 and 200-meter dashes as well and anchored TLU's winning 4X100-meter relay squad.

UT-Tyler's Chris Stonestreet was named Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the Year after winning the hammer throw and placing in the shot put and discus. McMurry's Sandy Heim won the javelin and placed second in the hammer throw to win Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Year.

TLU's Keelin Treacy won the 5,000 and 10,000-meter races to win Outstanding Female Freshman of the Year. McMurry's Paul Davis won the shot put and the discus to win the Outstanding Male Freshman of the Year. UT-Tyler's Jeff Chandler was the high-point athlete on the male side with 26 points and Maloree Kendall of Hardin-Simmons won the high-point athlete award.
