RICHARDSON, Texas – Clay Schubert's grand slam in the seventh inning helped McMurry seal a 7-2 win in Saturday's doubleheader with UT-Dallas. However, McMurry settled for a split when the Comets won 5-2 to take two games out of the three-game series in the finale.

McMurry fell to UT-Dallas 5-3 Friday night, forced a rubber match by snapping a six-game losing skid in game one Saturday, and fell to 2-7 on the season as the Comets took the final game.

McMurry held a 3-2 lead in game one when Schubert's bases-loaded bomb drove home Andrew Bell Jake Mulllin and Walt Williams with his first home run of the season. Zack Hewitt completed his start by shutting down the Comets in the bottom of the seventh to pick up his second win of the season.

Hewitt allowed six hits and just two runs in his third start of the year. He didn't walk a hitter and struck out one facing just four batters over the minimum. His second win matches his win total from a season ago despite collecting 10 starts.

Zach Rossman hit a solo home run in the sixth inning for McMurry's first home run as a team, while Jake Mullin added an RBI groundout in the fifth and Matt Thompson's triple drove home McMurry's first run in the third.

UT-Dallas did all its offensive damage in the bottom of the third when Jason Diemer and Jake Wyand each had RBI singles. T.J. Barnes picked up the loss in relief for the Comets as Rossman's homer was the go-ahead run for McMurry in the sixth.

A three-run eighth inning for UT-Dallas in the doubleheader finale helped UT-Dallas take the win to move to 7-3 on the season. The Comets scored all three on just one hit. Larry Bolding singled home a run, Jacob Starnes scored a run when he reached on a fielder's choice and Drew Haliford scored on a wild pitch.

Bell drove home a run with a sacrifice fly in the third and then singled home Greg Guse to tie the score at two. However, Spence Smith and Kory Moench combined to give up the three runs in the eighth in relief of Jordan Mattke who allowed two runs over 5.2 innings in his second start of the season. Smith moved to 0-1 with the loss and Derek Dallas picked up the win for the Comets striking out six in eight innings of work.

McMurry returns to action Tuesday against Wayland Baptist in Plainview at 3 p.m.
