ABILENE, Texas –Sitting 5-0 and on top of the American Southwest Conference West Division, McMurry University looks to extend their current win streak of six against Hardin-Simmons University Monday 5:30 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena. Hardin-Simmons carries a 2-3-conference record currently in fifth place in the ASC West Division; the War Hawks carry a half game lead over Concordia-Texas who is currently 4-0 in ASC play.

McMurry's defense has been the story of the early season holding opponents to 50.2 points a game ranking first in the ASC. The offense averages 70.1 points per game but ranks fifth among all ASC schools. Hardin-Simmons has the slight edge on McMurry in scoring offense averaging 70.4 points per contest.

Keshia Collins ranks sixth in the ASC in scoring averaging 16 points per game for the War Hawks. Collins shoots 42 percent from the floor, averages 6.8 rebounds per game, and has recorded a team high 25 assists and 20 steals on the season. Rikeita Thomas commands the offense from the point guard position recording 20 assists on the season while averaging 11.1 points per game.

Thomas commented on the hot start for the War Hawks and the game against the crosstown rival, Hardin-Simmons.

“It means a lot to me personally. We come into the season with the motto that we would improve from where we left off last year and so far we have lived up to that motto. Everyone on the team is ready for this game. We want to keep our same game plan that we have had all year. It will not be a gimmie game but I feel that we can pull it out and remain undefeated in conference play.”

Head coach Veronica Snow has been very pleased with the play of her starting point guard in Thomas.

“She has been an intregal part of our program as a three year starter for us. She is a dynamic young lady who has turned into a great leader for us on the court. The team would not be the same without her.”

For Hardin-Simmons, Angela Newcomb drives the offense averaging 14.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. Her 12.1 rebounds per game leads the ASC. As a team the Cowgirls shoot 37 percent from the floor and 25 percent from beyond the arch. Jasmine Lewis leads the team defensively with 20 steals on the season, she has added 16 assists and 13.8 points per game offensively.

Coach Snow discussed the upcoming game against Hardin-Simmons.

“We plan on keeping our game plan and executing it well. It will be tough, it always is. You can throw records out the window and how we did against common opponents. What will matter is who shows up Monday night to play. Hopefully we can protect our home court.“
