ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University will have its first road test of the season facing the University of the Ozarks Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Texas-Dallas Saturday 1 p.m. McMurry carries a 4-0 record and a 2-0 conference record into the weekend.
Preseason American Southwest Conference Player of the Year
Steven Jones has continued success averaging 16 points and 8.5 boards per game.
Jaden Isler and Bryce hill are each recording over 13 points per game, Isler averages 4.75 assists per game.
Ozarks come into the contest carrying a 0-2 ASC record and 2-3 overall record. The Eagles have lost the last two games against ASC West Division members Howard Payne University and Sul Ross State. The Ozarks are led by Marcus Bobb who averages 13 points and six rebounds per games. The Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the ASC East Division.
McMurry's Saturday opponent Texas-Dallas won the East Division in the 2010-11 season and were picked to repeat in the ASC preseason poll. The Comets will face Hardin-Simmons University Thursday testing UTD's perfect 5-0 record. ASC East Division Player of the Year Chris Barns is averaging 19 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. The senior forward is shooting 51 percent from the floor, helping UTD to a 47-percent effort as a team.
As a team the War Hawks are shooting 51 percent from the floor and 38 percent from beyond the arch. McMurry has outscored its first four opponents by an average of 29 points helping them to an undefeated start. The 4-0 mark is the best start McMurry has had since the 1999-2000 season when the team started out 4-0.
