ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University dominates LeTourneau University in its American Southwest Conference opener 85-66 Saturday afternoon in Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks
Bryce Hill recorded 23 points in the match going 7-12 from beyond the arch.
McMurry recorded 15 steals as a team compared to only four from LETU. The War hawks shot 44.8 percent from the floor and our rebounded the Yellowjackets 46-31.
Bryce Hill only recorded one two point basket-going 8-17 from the floor adding a game high four steals.
Steven Jones and
Dominick Walker each recorded double doubles in the contest. Jones recorded 17 points and 10 boards, Walker 12 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
Jaden Isler recorded a game high six assists.
McMurry lead by 14 twice in the first half, the first at the 6:41 mark after a Jones jumper. The Second 14 point lead came with 1:21 left in the first half again after a Jones jumper found the basket.
LeTourneau pulled within four points in the first four minutes of the second half on a fast break point. McMurry took over the game pulling away from the Yellowjackets and finishing with the 19 point victory. McMurry's final two points were a Walker jumper with 14 seconds left on the clock.
McMurry moves to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in ASC action. LeTourneau falls to 1-2 on the year and 0-1 in ASC play. The War Hawks conclude their four game home stand Monday facing Texas-Tyler at 7:30 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena.
A ceremony dedicating Ron Holmes Court will take place in between the men's and women's match on Monday. Ron Holmes, former McMurry head coach, amassed 300 wins in his 20 year career as McMurry's head coach.
