ABILENE, Texas – One streak is over, one streak remains. Hardin-Simmons handed McMurry its first loss of the season Wednesday night
ending the War Hawks' undefeated start at 17 matches. The Cowgirls dropped the first set, but went on to a 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-14 victory, and HSU has now defeated McMurry seven-straight times.
The match also decided who takes the lead in the American Southwest Conference West Division as the Cowgirls moved to 8-0, and the War Hawks fell to 7-1 in league play.
Hardin-Simmons hit .333 as a team and the Cowgirl defense limited McMurry to a season-low .153 hitting percentage. Christine Sas had 17 kills and 16 digs to lead HSU while Madison Reyes and Hanna Hornsby added 15 and 10 kills respectively.
In the losing effort
M.J. Vickers and
Stephanie Henry had a dozen kills apiece. Vickers had a double-double with 16 digs.
McMurry heads to Tyler for the second and final ASC Crossover Tournament of the season. The War Hawks will play four matches in two days with UT-Tyler and UT-Dallas Friday at Noon and 5 p.m. respectively, and Mary Hardin-Baylor and LeTourneau Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
