AUSTIN, Texas –Concordia-Texas used a 12-0 run late in the second half to seal a victory over McMurry University Thursday night at the Concordia Field House. After leading 58-56, the Tornados' Skylar Lott hit a layup with 5:46 sparking 12-straight points and the Tornados held on for a 75-64 win.
McMurry began with a 12-2 start capped by Rikieta Thomas' 3-pointer with 16:39 to play. However, CTX took advantage of four McMurry turnovers during a three-minute span on their way to a 10-0 run knotting the game at 12-12 with 13:00 left in the half. It was nip and tuck before the Tornados eventually took a 32-28 lead into half time.
McMurry would take its largest and final lead of the second half with 10:47 to go when Lukaszewski hit a three-point bucket to put them up 50-44. McLee tied the game at 56-56 with 6:28 to play in the contest. The two teams would trade baskets and then Concordia went on its 12-0 run that sealed it up for the home team
Thomas led McMurry with 17 points, with fellow sophomore
Andi Lukaszewski who added a career high 13 points. McMurry outrebounded Concordia 41-31 on the night but only shot 36 percent from the floor compared to Concordia's 47 percent. The Tornados took advantage of 35 McMurry turnovers on its way to the victory.
The loss dropped McMurry to 8-7 overall and 6-5 in ASC play. The win takes Concordia to 9-6 overall with a 8-4 conference record. McMurry is in action again Saturday against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
