Hardin-Simmons sweeps McMury to take lead in ASC West

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons defeated McMurry University for the fouth-straight time and took sole possession of first place in the American Southwest Conference West Division. The Cowgirls moved to 5-1 in league play with a 25-18, 25-21, 25-13 win over McMurry on its home floor at Kimbrell Arena Tuesday night.

Madison Reyes had 16 kills and hit .333 to lead the Cowgirls and Christine Sas added nine. HSU hit .231 as a team and the defense, paced by seven blocks, held McMurry to a .070 hitting percentage. Reyes also had a double-double with 15 digs and had two total blocks and libero Gracen Harris also had 15 digs to pace the defensive effort.

M.J. Vickers had 10 kills and 10 digs in the loss for McMurry while Bailey Marcum added eight kills and a team-high 20 digs. McMurry led 8-4 in set one and 19-16 in set two but couldn't hold the lead.

Hardin-Simmons defeated McMurry three times in 2009 including a victory over McMurry in the ASC Postseason Tournament Semi-Finals.

McMurry dropped to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in league play while Hardin-Simmons improve to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in league play. Both teams head to Richardson this weekend for the ASC Crossover Tournament and each team will play three matches.
