ABILENE, Texas - McMurry scored 32 runs on 37 hits to take Saturday's doubleheader from Schreiner University at Walt Driggers Field, and the team swept the three-game American Southwest Conference West Division series. McMurry won game one 14-1 before taking game two 18-1 in the series finale.

In addition, McMurry's Dakota Smith and Chris Semchenko each pitched gems in their respective starts on the mound to help McMurry move to 12-13 overall and 5-4 in league play while Schreiner dropped to 3-23 and 1-8 respectively.

Below is a recap of each game:

Game 1

Dakota Smith picked up his 15th career victory and fourth of his senior season while McMurry pounded out 16 hits in a 14-1 win over the Mountaineers in game one of the Saturday doubleheader.

McMurry scored four in the first, two in the second, seven in the third and one in the sixth to ensure that the home team would at least clinch the series after Friday night's win.

Smith threw five innings, scattered six hits, gave up one run, walked none and struck out four to move to 4-2 on the season. His 15 careers wins ties him for eighth on McMurry's all-time career list for wins with Josh Duwe (2000-2001).

Chris Maldanado finished up the game in the final two innings of relief allowing just one hit, he didn't walk a hitter and struck out four.

Jake Mullin went 3 for 5 with four RBIs, Dylan De Leon drove in three runs on two hits while Michael Dibiasi, Derek Saltzgaber, and Jeff Jackson all drove in two runs apiece. Jackson hit a two-run home run in the first to give the senior four homers this season. In his previous three years with the team, Jackson had hit four home runs and has now doubled that total to eight so far in his final year with the team.

Colton Hermes picked up the loss for Schreiner allowing seven runs in the first 2.1 innings to fall to 0-7 on the season. The Mountaineers got their only run of the game in the fourth with Oscar Ibieta hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot to right centerfield in the fourth.

Game 2

Chris Semchenko took advantage of his first start of the season by striking out 13 Schreiner hitters in seven innings of three-hit scoreless baseball and McMurry took the final game of the three-game series 18-1.

McMurry had struggled to find its third starter for the three-game sets with ASC opponents this season and Saturday elected to go with Semchenko after Cory Davis made a move back to the bullpen. Semchenko may have solidified a spot for the final four ASC West Division series as he was just one strikeout shy of McMurry's school record.

At one point from the second to the fourth inning, the sophomore right hander struck out seven consecutive Mountaineers. Although he didn't complete the game, he had thrown 95 pitches, and previously this season hadn't worked longer than 4.2 innings.

Instead Jordan Brown and Cory Davis each pitched an inning in relief with Schreiner getting its only run in the eighth when Curt Jaeger homered off the scoreboard in rightfield off Brown in his only at bat of the series. Davis pitched a perfect ninth and struck out two giving the McMurry pitching staff a combined 16 strikeouts in the second game.

Offensively McMurry scored four runs in the first, two in the third, four in the fourth, six in the fifth, and one run apiece in the sixth and eighth innings. Every McMurry starter scored a run and recorded at least two hits. De Leon drove in a team-high four runs while Michael Falcone, Matt Thompson and Saltzgaber each drove in two with Jeff Jackson and Hunter Lane each recording RBI's as well. Both the 18 runs and 21 hits were season highs for McMurry.

Justin Martinez picked up the loss in three innings of work; he gave up 10 hits and eight runs although only four were earned. Schreiner suffered eight errors in the field in the loss.
