Junior outfielder
Jake Mullin was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Hitter of the Week Monday for his performance last week. Mullin helped McMurry to a 3-1 week including a three-game sweep of ASC east opponent LeTourneau Saturday and Sunday.
Mullin, the Burleson native, is coming off an all-region selection last season and already is off to a fast start in 2010. Last week, he was 8 for 14 from the plate with three doubles two home runs and four RBI. He also drew six walks and is the ASC's leader with 14 drawn this season.
He hit his second and third home runs of the season in the first two games of the LeTourneau series where McMurry took all three games from the Yellow Jackets. In the first game of the series, he hit a solo shot and drew a season-high four walks while scoring two runs.
In the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, Mullin hit a three-run homer and went 3 for 5 from the plate. He also recorded two outfield assists during the series with LeTourneau.
For the season, Mullin is hitting .412 with nine runs scored, five doubles three home runs and eight RBIs.
Mullin was named the ASC Offensive Player of the Week twice this school year prior to Monday's award, however, those awards came on the football team as McMurry's quarterback. He, along with former two-sport standout Bert Green are the only McMurry players to ever win ASC weekly awards in two different sports for one season.
McMurry returns to action Wednesday at 5 p.m. when it plays host to Texas Wesleyan and Walt Driggers Field.
