Strong first half gives McMurry sixth-straight win

KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University won its sixth-straight game overall and fourth consecutive American Southwest Conference contest with a 73-41 victory over Schreiner Saturday afternoon at the Edington Athletic Complex.

McMurry surged to a 49-17 first-half lead forcing 19 turnovers by the Mountaineers to open the game. McMurry head coach Veronica Snow was able to empty her bench in the second half and Schreiner played better with both teams scoring 24 points apiece in the second half.

LaPorsha Alexander scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds and three assists off the bench to help lead a balanced scoring effort for McMurry. All 14 active players saw at least seven minutes and 11 of 14 players scored in the ball game. Kelsey Lindemuth scored 11 points, had five steals and three assists off the bench for McMurry.

Amanda Peters and Anna Berthel each had nine points apiece while Rikeita Thomas had eight. The Mountaineers committed 31 turnovers and McMurry turned those mistakes into 31 points on the other end of the floor.

Though McMurry's defense was stout, the team also struggled with ball control turning the ball over 23 times while Schreiner took advantage for 15 points off turnovers.

The Mountaineers were led off the bench by Colby Adolph who had 11 points and four rebounds while Kira Chester added eight points. Schreiner shot 32 percent from the floor while McMurry finished at 38 percent. The visitors reached the foul line 31 times and converted 24.

Schreiner fell to 0-15 overall and 0-11 in ASC play while McMurry improved to 9-5 overall and 6-4 in the ASC. McMurry will continue its four-game road trip Thursday in Alpine and will face Sul Ross State at 5:30 p.m.
