ABILENE -- The McMurry men's basketball team completed the sweep of cross-town rival Hardin-Simmons for the year as they topped the Cowboys, 68-62, Monday night in an American Southwest Conference West Division game at Kimbrell Arena.
The win improves the first-place McMurry men to 14-5 overall and 13-2 in ASC play. McMurry maintains its three-game lead in the ASC West standings, a full three-games on second place Mary Hardin-Baylor. McMurry will look for revenge against UMHB, who knocked off McMurry last Thursday to snap McMurry's eight-game winning streak, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Kimbrell Arena.
Senior guard
Robert Moreno led McMurry with his total-game effort of nine points, eight assists (he had just two turnovers) and six rebounds. Senior
Dewayne Hall finished with a game-high 17 points, including 4 of 5 from behind the arc.
Other top performers for McMurry included junior forward
Jamal Anene, who scored 12 points; senior center
Brett Johnson, who grabbed 10 rebounds; and senior guard
Jonathan Walker, who scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds.
The loss drops HSU to 6-13 and 5-10.
