UTSA jumped out of the gate quick and outscored McMurry 21-12 in the first 10 minutes of the game. McMurry and UTSA battled fairly even the rest of the half as the Roadrunners held a 10-point advantage (35-25) before UTSA guard Omar Johnson nailed a controversial 3-pointer just before the first-half buzzer sounded to give the Roadrunners a 38-25 lead. It looked as if McMurry guard
Robert Moreno was in position for a charge, but no whistle sounded and UTSA took a 13-point advantage into the break.
Both teams played even in the first 10 minutes of the second half as UTSA led by 13 (57-44) at the midway point. But the Roadrunners went on a quick 7-0 run to push their lead up to 20 (64-44) with only 8:09 to play. UTSA kept its lead around the 20-point mark the rest of the way as the Roadrunners won going away.
"I am extremely pleased with how the guys played (Tuesday night)," McMurry coach Ron Holmes said. "Playing a team like UTSA is great prep for us as we enter conference play. There won't be anybody that is (UTSA's) equal in our conference and I'm glad we got the opportunity to play against them right before we start conference."
