ABILENE, TX – The McMurry War Hawks split their doubleheader with the University of Dallas on March 28th at Walt Driggers Field. Dallas claimed game one 3-0, but the War Hawks responded by routing Dallas 17-1 in game two.
Game One: Dallas 3, McMurry 0
In the first game, the contest remained a scoreless tie through the first four innings.
McMurry threatened in the bottom of the third when
Beckham Paul doubled and stole third base, but the War Hawks were unable to bring him home.
Dallas found their offensive rhythm in the top of the fifth inning, bringing three runs across the plate to take the lead.
Tatum Black and
Beckham Paul both singled in the bottom of the fifth, but Dallas shut down the rally.
Hunter Poe threw six innings for McMurry, striking out seven batters and allowing three runs.
Trey Gomez entered in relief, throwing three scoreless innings and allowing zero hits.
Game Two: McMurry 17, Dallas 1 (7 innings)
Game two of the doubleheader saw the McMurry offense come alive. The War Hawks scored seventeen runs on sixteen hits.
McMurry got on the board early in the first inning when
Collin Bruning brought in
Tatum Black, followed by
Beckham Paul scoring on a balk. The second inning brought three more runs for McMurry, highlighted by RBI singles from
Tatum Black and
Beckham Paul.
After Dallas scored their lone run in the top of the fourth , McMurry exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Dru Ohmstede brought in a run after being hit by a pitch, and
Hayden Grooms followed with a two-run single.
Rylan Stokes added an RBI single before
Tatum Black launched a grand slam to clear the bases.
McMurry added three more runs in the fifth inning with RBIs from
Hayden Grooms,
Rylan Stokes, and
Diego Flores.
Nolan Amerman capped off the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Braydon Durst secured the win for McMurry, striking out nine batters over six innings while allowing only one run.

Tatum Black: Belted a grand slam in game two, finishing with four hits, five RBIs, four runs, and two stolen bases.
Beckham Paul: Tallied four hits across the doubleheader, including a double, with three runs scored and four steals.
Braydon Durst: Notched the game two win, firing six innings with nine strikeouts and yielding one run.
Hunter Poe: Struck out seven batters over six innings of work in game one.
