McMurry War Hawks Announce 2025 Football Schedule

ABILENE, TX – The McMurry University War Hawks have released their highly anticipated 2025 football schedule, promising an exciting season filled with challenging match ups and memorable home games. Coming off a historic 2024 season that saw the War Hawks achieve a 7-3 overall record and a 7-1 conference record, earning them a co-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) championship alongside Texas Lutheran – their first conference title since 1983 when McMurry won the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association – the team is poised for another successful year.

The War Hawks will kick off the season at Wilford Moore Stadium on Saturday, September 6th at 6:00 PM against Southwestern University. Last year's season opener saw a tough 24-20 loss to Southwestern, and the War Hawks are eager for redemption. The following week, on Saturday, September 13th at 1:00 PM, the team will travel across town to face rival Hardin-Simmons University at Shelton Stadium. Last year's clash was a tightly contested affair, with Hardin-Simmons, who finished 10-1 overall, edging out the McMurry 17-12.

Week three takes the War Hawks on a challenging road trip to Montgomery, Alabama, to face Huntingdon College on Saturday, September 20th at 1:00 PM. Huntingdon, who finished 5-5 overall last season, will provide a stern test for the team. Returning home on Saturday, September 27th at 1:00 PM, McMurry will host Howard Payne University for the annual Military Appreciation Game. The War Hawks last faced Howard Payne in 2023, securing a decisive 45-21 victory.

Following a bye week on October 4th, the War Hawks will dive into conference play. Homecoming will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00 PM as they host Lyon College, who finished 1-9 overall and 0-8 in conference last season.

The team will then travel to Sherman, Texas, on Saturday, October 18th at 1:00 PM to face Austin College, who finished 2-8 overall and 2-6 in conference. The War Hawks will continue their road stretch on Saturday, October 25th against Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, with the game time still to be determined. Centenary finished 4-6 overall and 4-4 in conference.

The War Hawks return home on Saturday, November 1st at 7:00 PM to host co-conference champion Texas Lutheran University for Family Weekend. Texas Lutheran finished 9-2 overall and 7-1 in conference last season. Senior Day will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8th at 1:00 PM as the War Hawks host Hendrix College, who return to the SCAC for the first time since 2012, where they were members from 1992-2012, finishing 4-6 last season.

The regular season concludes with the SCAC Conference Championship Weekend on Saturday, November 15th at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas, where the top six teams will compete in three separate matchups based on their conference standings. The matchups for Championship Weekend will be #1 seed vs. #2 seed, #3 seed vs. #4 seed, and #5 seed vs. #6 seed.

"We are thrilled about the way our 2025 season schedule has come together," said Head Coach Jordan Neal. "We have 5 exciting home games, including 3 of our conference ball games. We are also really looking forward to continuing to play the cross-town rival game against Hardin-Simmons, as well as welcoming back Howard Payne. It will be a huge challenge for us, but we eagerly look forward to travelling to Montgomery, Alabama to take on traditional powerhouse Huntingdon College. Our players and coaches continue to work hard building our program, and we look forward to matching up against these teams and taking another step forward in 2025."
