Box Score Men's Basketball vs. TLU
ABILENE- The McMurry and TLU men's basketball teams met in the second game of a SCAC men's and women's double-header Friday night at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks were able to secure the win and improve to 8-16 on the year and 6-9 in conference play, with TLU falling to 6-18 on the year.
Both teams battled back and forth in the early going of the contest as they traded baskets. The Bulldogs were able to get a little separation in the scoreboard as they took a 7 point lead into the 12 minute media timeout at 20-13.
The tight trends would continue as baskets would remain hard to come by, as TLU retained their lead but McMurry tightened up the score at 25-22 at the next media timeout at the 7:24 mark of the first half.
McMurry would continue to battle back as they were able to cut the TLU lead to 6 before the Bulldogs hit a shot at the buzzer going into halftime. The contest remained tight in the score as the squads went into the locker room looking at an 8 point game. TLU led McMurry at the break, 43-35, as the War Hawks would look to close the gap in the second half.
The War Hawks stormed into the second half as they went on an 18-7 run to start the half and took the lead at 53-50 going into the first media timeout at the 15:50 mark. McMurry was able to use their momentum from the end of the first half and build on it to take the lead as they looked to extend it coming out of the media timeout.
McMurry would get red-hot from the 3-point line, with key shots from
Matt Pena as they were able to hold their lead going in to the next media timeout. The War Hawks led the Bulldogs 64-57 at the 11:32 mark, the game was picking up intensity from both sides as we got ready to hit the final stretch of the game.
The War Hawks would continue to shoot the ball well as they saw their lead grow to 13 points at the 9:11 mark where they led the Bulldogs 74-61.
The game would once again get tighter as TLU got back within striking distance, as McMurry led 81-74 going into our final media timeout. The final 4 minutes would be the difference maker in the contest.
The two teams battled back and forth over the final minutes of the contest, but the lead that the War Hawks built up in the second half would prove to be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome as McMurry went on to win by a score of 88-85.

Kino Thompson with 22 points.
The War Hawks are back in action on Sunday for Senior day as they take on Southwestern at 2:00 at Kimbrell Arena.
