ABILENE- The War Hawks men's basketball team came up short in their conference matchup with Schreiner today at Kimbrell Arena.
A strong shooting second half by the Mountaineers plagued the War Hawks chances as Schreiner went on to win the game by a score of 109-84. McMurry fell to 3-12 overall & 1-5 in conference play, while Schreiner improved to 12-5 overall & 5-3 in conference play.
The first half was evenly matched as both teams traded buckets for the majority of the half. The 2 squads had their fair share of runs and momentum changes as both teams tried to get some separation. McMurry was able to keep their lead as they went into the locker room with a 43-42 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Schreiner saw their shots fall a lot more and were able to get some key stops on the defensive end. The War Hawks were unable to get the stops they needed to string together runs to cut into the Mountaineers lead in the second half. Schreiner would eventually pull away to get the win, 109-84.
McMurry won the first contest with Schreiner a few weeks ago in Kerrville, but were unable to complete the season sweep of the Mountaineers, as the two teams split the contest, with the road team coming out victorious both times.
McMurry was led by Jalen Cherry with 18 points, followed by Kino Thompson with 13 points, while Schreiner was led by Beau Cervantes with 24 points.
The War Hawks are back in action as they hit the road on Friday to face TLU in Seguin at 7:30PM.
