HOUSTON- The War Hawks came up short in a close conference game against St. Thomas in Houston. McMurry fell to 3-9 overall & 1-2 in conference play, while St. Thomas improved to 13-1 overall & 5-0 in conference play.
The early stages of the game saw lots of intensity from both sides. McMurry came out strong and took a quick lead in the opening minutes before St. Thomas responded and began to control the game. As we approached the midway point of the 1st half, The War Hawks found themselves in a 19 point hole. As usual, McMurry battled back and found their way back into the contest.
McMurry would go on a run in the second half to close the gap to single digits before giving up a big 3 ball to push the lead back out to 12. The War Hawks would not go easily, as they battled back again a couple more times, chipping away at the lead. The Celts found a way to close the game and put the War Hawks away in a tough matchup that had no shortage of intensity. St. Thomas would go on to win by a score of 76-62.
McMurry was led by Matt Pena with 12 points, followed by D'Von Turner with 11 points, while St. Thomas was led by Angel Johnson with 19 points.
The War Hawks will be back in action on Sunday as they hit the road to take on Colorado College at 3:00PM.
