Box Score McMurry University's War Hawks lost 89-67 to University of the Ozarks Saturday, Feb. 3 in Clarksville, Ark.
Junior forward TJ Hilliard (New Orleans, Louisiana) was top scorer with 14 points, followed by senior forward/center Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) with 13 and senior guard CJ LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) with 11.
Coach Zach Pickelman's team was outscored 50-29 in the first half and 39-38 in the second.
The War Hawks nailed eight three-pointers with two each by junior forward Josh Alcocer (San Antonio, Texas), Hilliard and LeBlanc, and one apiece by sophomore guard Coco Rose (Odessa, Texas) and junior guard Matt Pena (El Paso, Texas). On Thursday against University of Texas-Dallas, LeBlanc and Pena broke a record that has stood since 1990. LeBlanc is tops in school history for made and attempted three-pointers in a career, while Pena is second all time.
In Saturday's game at the free-throw line, Garcia was 5 of 6, Rose was 4 of 6, freshman forward Tristan Holden (San Antonio, Texas) was 2 of 2, and senior guard/forward Rob Charles (Houston, Texas) and LeBlanc were 1 of 2. Garcia led in rebounds with six, two on offense and four on defense. The War Hawks stole the ball seven times with LeBlanc having three thefts, Garcia two, and Charles and Hilliard with one each.
McMurry, 9-12 overall and 3-9 in the American Southwest Conference, plays its last home game of the season against crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons University at 6 p.m. Thursday in Kimbrell Arena.
