Box Score McMurry University's War Hawks were defeated 95-72 by Hardin-Simmons University Saturday, Feb. 10 at HSU.
Senior guard CJ LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) was top scorer with 23 points, followed by senior forward/center Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) with 22 and sophomore guard Coco Rose (Odessa, Texas) with 16.
Coach Zach Pickelman's team connected on five three-pointers. Rose and LeBlanc had two each, and junior guard Matt Pena (El Paso, Texas) added one. At the free-throw line, Garcia was 8 of 9, Rose was 6 of 9, LeBlanc was 3 of 4, junior forward TJ Hilliard (New Orleans, Louisiana) was 1 of 3 and freshman guard Jack Bommarito (Denton, Texas) was 1 of 2. Garcia led in rebounding with eight, one on offense and seven on defense.
The War Hawks stole the ball five times. LeBlanc and Garcia contributed two thefts each, and Rose added one. Freshman forward Tristan Holden (San Antonio, Texas) blocked two shots and Hilliard blocked one. In addition, junior forward Josh Alcocer (San Antonio, Texas), Garcia and LeBlanc attempted to block one apiece.
The opponent won the first half 37-30 and the second 58-42.
McMurry, 9-14 overall and 3-11 in the American Southwest Conference, plays at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
