This Week in McM Men's Basketball

ABILENE – McMurry Men's Basketball has a two-day Abilene fest Monday and Tuesday hosting Hardin-Simmons at 6 p.m. on Monday and playing an exhibition at Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
 
The War Hawks lost an exhibition at Texas State last week.
 
McMurry Storylines
 
Finer Points: McMurry got double-digit scoring from two players in its exhibition against Division I Texas State. Matt Pena had 15 points and Josh Alcocer added 10.
 
New Faces: There are 10 new players on the McMurry roster this season: seven freshmen and three transfers. The newcomers include 6-2 guard Kino Thompson, who averaged 8.5 points off the bench at Grand View last season, 6-4 forward Jalen Cherry, who played in10 games at LeTourneau, and 6-7 junior Julian Wilson. The freshman class includes Aden MendezD'Von TurnerGavin DeanSunny ParkerDayne ThompsonGervai Maeweathers and Jordan Willis.
 
Giveth and Taketh: Kino Thompson led McMurry with four assists in the exhibition last week. He also came up with two steals.
 
Sixth Man Jalen Cherry came off the bench to lead the War Hawks with four rebounds last week. He led the bench with 19 minutes on the court.
 
Making the Most of It: Aden Mendez made the most of his five minutes last week. He had two assists and scored six points. He was two of three from three-point range.
 
Abilene History: Monday will be the 102nd meeting between McMurry and HSU. The Cowboys lead the series 55-46. ACU and McMurry meet on Tuesday for the 88th time. The Wildcats lead the series 62-25.
 
About Hardin-Simmons: The Cowboys are 1-1 with a home win over Texas Lutheran and a loss at Schreiner. Chris Bryant averaged 20 points and eight rebounds. Austin Brewer averages 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists. The Cowboys played both games without preseason All-American Will Bartoszek. HSU is the preseason ASC favorite.
 
About Abilene Christian: The Wildcats are 1-1 with a win over Howard Payne and a loss to Middle Tennessee. Leo Bettiol leads the team with 15 points per game. Bradyn Hubbard averages eight rebounds and Quion Williams gets 12 points and seven rebounds per game. ACU is picked seventh in the WAC.
