ABILENE – McMurry Cross Country returns to action on Saturday at Dallas Baptist University's Old Glory Gallop in Grand Prairie.
 
One of the larger meets McMurry runs in, the War Hawks were 13^th in the women's race and 17^th in the men's last season. The Gallop typically attracts top regional NCAA Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college teams.
 
Savanna Danner was McMurry's top female runner last season, finishing 46^th at 18:55 on the five-kilometer course.
 
Isaac Gonzales was 86^th last year, finishing the eight-kilometer trail in 26:05.
 
The War Hawk women won their last outing – the Southwestern Showdown, led by Danner in third place. Chloe McLellan, Anna Dinaso, Ashley Shea and Katelyn Hernandez all placed in the top 10.
 
Rogelio Ramirez placed sixth in the men's race at Southwestern, leading McMurry to a second-place finish. Roman Perez and Gonzales also placed in the top 10.
 
The unique race includes cowboys leading off the race, lasso tricks, a cowboy crown to both individual champions and belt buckles for the top seven placers of the winning teams.
 
The race at Lynn Creek Park begins at 8:15 a.m. for the men and 9:15 a.m. for the women.
