McMurry University's War Hawks lost 84-76 to Sul Ross State University Saturday, Jan. 27 in Alpine.
 

Senior forward/center Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) and sophomore guard Coco Rose (Odessa, Texas) led the way with 15 points each, followed by senior guard CJ LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) with 14, and senior guard/forward Rob Charles (Houston, Texas) and junior forward Josh Alcocer (San Antonio, Texas) with 12 apiece.
 

Coach Zach Pickelman's team won the first half 38-33 but was outscored 51-38 in the second.
 

The War Hawks nailed 12 three-pointers. Rose had three, Alcocer, Charles and LeBlanc scored two each, and freshman guard Jack Bommarito (Denton, Texas), junior guard Matt Pena (El Paso, Texas) and Garcia all contributed one. At the free-throw line, LeBlanc was 4 of 6 and Rose was a perfect 2 of 2. Garcia had a double double as he finished with 12 rebounds, all on defense. Freshman forward Tristan Holden (San Antonio, Texas) blocked two shots and Garcia blocked one. The visitors stole the ball eight times. LeBlanc and Rose had two thefts each, and junior forward TJ Hilliard (New Orleans, Louisiana), Holden, Alcocer and Garcia had one apiece.
 

The score was tied six times and the lead changed hands five times.
 

The game didn't count in the American Southwest Conference standings because the opponent is reclassifying to Division 2.
 

McMurry, 9-10 overall and 3-7 in conference, plays at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at University of Texas-Dallas in Richardson.
