ABILENE, TEXAS – At the conclusion of its brief 2023 fall schedule, McMurry University head women's tennis coach
Chris Breaux saw a silver lining.
Breaux's reason to see a bright future was emphasized by strong singles play from his young War Hawks crew at the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Southwest Regional hosted by Hardin-Simmons Thursday, Sept. 21-Saturday, Sept. 23. Freshman
Kaylee Connally (Abilene, Texas) and sophomore
Jenna Vincent (San Angelo, Texas) headlined the action, as Connally went 4-1 in the B draw, advancing to the semifinals, and Vincent climbed into the A consolation quarterfinals as part of a 2-2 run at HSU's courts.
"I think we did well for weekend," Breaux said. "It's a very young team, but there is some skill there.
Our scholar-athletes came out and had great emotion," he added. "Moving forward, this team has potential. We just need to keep on battling."
McMurry's men now take to the regional stage Thursday, Sept. 28-Sunday, Oct. 1, at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
