NIP-AND-TUCK TEAM TITLE CHASE GOES WAY OF MCMURRY

SOUTHWESTERN SHOWDOWN RESULTS

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – Junior Katelyn Hernandez (Sunray, Texas) and sophomore Jocelyn Moreno (Shiner, Texas) played a key role for McMurry University Saturday, Sept. 16.

Hernandez's 22nd place ending and a top 20 mark for Moreno were the difference in a nail-biting team title battle. The War Hawks and fellow American Southwest Conference member East Texas Baptist both tallied 60 points at the conclusion, but interim head coach Corey Koch's pair wound up ahead of the Tigers' number six placer to determine the champion.

"To get a team title in our second meet is great," Koch admitted. "However, I think we were all focused on competing stronger than in our season opener. Being able to come back from a tough mark at the Big Country meet with many of our scholar-athletes covering a 5K course for the first time shows how well the group, especially our younger runners, did."

McMurry concluded the individual roll with two top 10s. Sophomore Savanna Danner (Kennedale, Texas) wound up fourth (24:51.7) with Ashley Shea (Bulverde, Texas), also part of the Class of 2026, running to eighth in 25:33.9.
