McMurry University women's cross-country team won the 2023 American Southwest Conference title Saturday, Oct. 28 in Abilene.

The meet was moved to Abilene Christian University's course from Grand Prairie near Dallas after heavy rains, according to the ASC website.

This was McMurry's third straight championship. McMurry, which moves to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference next year, won the ASC title in 2006, and 2021-23. The ASC website also said McMurry finished in the top three in 23 conference cross country meets.

Three Lady War Hawks finished in the top 10.

Sophomore Chloe McLellan (Waco, Texas) was McMurry's top finisher as she came in at seventh place with a time of 24:06.6. Right behind her was sophomore Savanna Danner (Kennedale, Texas) with a time of 24:08 for ninth place and freshman Anna Dinaso (Conroe, Texas) who had a time of 24:20.03 for 10th.

Other McMurry finishers were 14th, sophomore Ashley Shea (Bulverde, Texas), 24:37.8; 17th, junior Katelyn Hernandez (Sunray, Texas), 25:14.8; 30th, sophomore Jocelyn Moreno (Shiner, Texas), 26:10.1; 31st, freshman Abigail Huffhines (Aquilla, Texas), 26:17.9; 38th, senior Aubrey Batten (Pampa, Texas), 26:46.2; 40th, junior Jasmine Hunter (Robert Lee, Texas), 26:54.3; 42nd, freshman Abigayle Stubby-Kern (Amarillo, Texas), 27:08; 44th, freshman Jalene Hodges (Carrizo Springs, Texas), 27:15.8; 56th, sophomore Madison Soultanova (Jacksonville, Texas), 30:04.2.

Dinaso was chosen as Freshman of the Year and Corey Koch, who was promoted to head coach just before the season's first meet, was named Coaching Staff of the Year. McLellan was placed on the all-conference first team, and Danner, Dinaso and Shea were selected for the all-conference second team.

McMurry will next compete at the West Region Championships Nov. 11 in Riverside, California. The Division III National Championships is Nov. 18 in Newville, Pennsylvania.
