RICHARDSON, TEXAS – Sophomore
Bryson Morrill (Trophy Club, Texas) added to the lore of his amazing relief role for McMurry University Saturday, March 4.
Morrill locked up American Southwest Conference power UT-Dallas on only two hits over the final four and a third innings in game one of a three-game series between the War Hawks and Comets. His effort tumbled his minuscule earned run average even more to 1.76.
Despite the sophomore mound sensation keeping head coach
Josh Lee's Maroon and White club close at UTD Field, McMurry's offense couldn't overcome an early 6-1 deficit. Junior infielder
Josh Dyer (Albany, Texas) proved to be a one-man run producer with a home run and RBI fielder's choice, but the visitors could get no closer, falling 6-2.
Lee's crew was on the verge of squaring things up in game two of Saturday's twin bill.
Dyer got his third RBI of the afternoon with a run-scoring triple in the first, sophomore outfielder
Koy Carpenter (La Vernia, Texas) bashed an RBI double, and sophomore outfielder
Casey Turner (Kingwood, Texas) homered to give the Maroon and White a 4-3 lead after six and a half frames. Sophomore
Adam Trevino (Galveston, Texas) and senior
Travis Beauchamp (Waco, Texas) combined to fan eight home team hitters. Still, UT-Dallas kept the pressure on in their final at-bat with four hits, leading to two runs and a come-from-behind 5-4 decision.
McMurry (3-9, 2-3 ASC) concludes its three-game series with the Comets Sunday, March 5. First pitch for a single nine-inning game is 12 p.m.
