Box Score McMurry University's War Hawks got back on the winning track Thursday, Dec. 21 when they beat Texas Lutheran University in Seguin 80-79 in overtime.
Junior forward TJ Hilliard (New Orleans, Louisiana) came off the bench to lead coach Zach Pickelman's team with 25 points. Other players scoring in double figures were sophomore guard Coco Rose (Odessa, Texas) with 17 points, and senior guard CJ LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) and senior forward/center Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) with 13 each.
The opponent won the first half 39-35, but the War Hawks won the second 38-34. The score was knotted at 73-73 at the end of regulation.
Garcia recorded a double double as he also had 12 rebounds, four on offense and eight on defense. At the free throw line, he was 6 of 7 and junior forward Josh Alcocer (San Antonio, Texas) was a perfect 2 of 2. LeBlanc had three three-pointers while freshman guard Jack Bommarito (Denton, Texas), freshman forward Tristan Holden (San Antonio, Texas), Rose and Garcia all made one apiece. Rose stole the ball three times, LeBlanc and Garcia had two steals each, and freshman guard Deshawn Crawford (Desoto, Texas), junior guard Matt Pena (El Paso, Texas) and Bommarito had one apiece. Garcia blocked two shots.
The score was tied six times and the lead changed hands twice.
McMurry, 6-6 overall, won't play again until Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. against Austin College in Sherman. The War Hawks return to Kimbrell Arena Jan. 11 to face Concordia University at 7:30 p.m.
