Box Score McMurry University had a shootout in a season-opening 114-107 win over Schreiner University Friday, Nov. 10, in Kimbrell Arena.
Senior guard
CJ LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) led a quartet of double-digit scorers as he finished with 25 points. Sophomore guard
Coco Rose (Odessa, Texas) followed closely behind with 21 points while senior forward/center
Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) chipped in 19 points and freshman forward
Tristan Holden (San Antonio, Texas) had 15 points.
An important key to victory was six players nailing all their free throws (two at 4 of 4, three at 2 of 2, one at 1 of 1) and three others almost being perfect. LeBlanc led the charge by converting 10 of 12. McMurry finished 35 of 40 at the line. However, the War Hawks weren't as efficient in three-pointers as they only made 9 out of 29 attempts.
Garcia finished with 10 of the team's 33 rebounds. Defensively, the team grabbed 21 on the defensive end. LeBlanc had the most assists with six. The team stole the ball 11 times and LeBlanc had five thefts. Garcia and Holden each blocked a shot.
The game featured nine lead changes and 11 ties. McMurry's bench players combined for 51 points. Down 50-46 at halftime, Coach
