War Hawks pull out a win against Schreiner.

Box Score McMurry University had a shootout in a season-opening 114-107 win over Schreiner University Friday, Nov. 10, in Kimbrell Arena.

Senior guard CJ LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) led a quartet of double-digit scorers as he finished with 25 points. Sophomore guard Coco Rose (Odessa, Texas) followed closely behind with 21 points while senior forward/center Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) chipped in 19 points and freshman forward Tristan Holden (San Antonio, Texas) had 15 points.

An important key to victory was six players nailing all their free throws (two at 4 of 4, three at 2 of 2, one at 1 of 1) and three others almost being perfect. LeBlanc led the charge by converting 10 of 12. McMurry finished 35 of 40 at the line. However, the War Hawks weren't as efficient in three-pointers as they only made 9 out of 29 attempts.

Garcia finished with 10 of the team's 33 rebounds. Defensively, the team grabbed 21 on the defensive end. LeBlanc had the most assists with six. The team stole the ball 11 times and LeBlanc had five thefts. Garcia and Holden each blocked a shot.

The game featured nine lead changes and 11 ties. McMurry's bench players combined for 51 points. Down 50-46 at halftime, Coach Zach Pickelman's War Hawks outscored the opponent 68-57 in the second half.

McMurry, 1-0, continues a two-game homestand Saturday hosting Texas Lutheran University at 5 p.m.
