ABILENE, TEX. – A significant offensive-defensive double-double from sophomore outside hitter
Keetyn Davis (Abilene, Tex.) sparked McMurry University Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Davis pounded 14 kills at the visiting Concordia University Tornadoes defense and dug 27 opposing attacks to help guide head coach
Cammie Petree's team to a wild and woolly 29-27, 25-23, 24-26, 25-17 victory on their home Kimbrell Arena floor. Davis also found herself contributing to the net defense with two blocks.
The win moved McMurry into a tie for third with East Texas Baptist University on the American Southwest Conference standings. They are only a half-game behind UT-Dallas for second and one in back of crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons for first.
Sophomore middle hitter
Bri Garcia (Abilene, Tex.) found herself tied with her classmate for top kill honors (14). She also served up an ace. While the War Hawks did 56 kills, back row defense was the name of the game for both teams, as the hosts had 104 digs compared to Concordia's 102. It was the most in a match for Petree's program since the spring campaign of 2020 when they posted the same number against Sul Ross St. Senior defensive specialist
Adile Leal (Clute, Tex.) and freshman outside hitter
Shaely Rogers (Bandera, Tex.) were right behind Davis dig-wise, posting 19 and 17, respectively.
Coming off four wins in six matches on their latest homestand, McMurry takes to the road, facing East Texas Baptist University in league play Saturday, Sept. 24. First serve is 1 p.m. at ETBU's Ornelas Gym.
