MARSHALL, TEXAS – Freshman setter Lexie Miller (Abilene, Texas) registering an assist-dig double-double, and the numbers of sophomore-junior front line combination of
Keetyn Davis (Abilene, Texas) and
Addyson Tiffin (Bushland, Texas) were the McMurry University headliners in American Southwest Conference action Saturday, Sept. 24.
Miller kept head coach
Cammie Petree's squad as close as she could with the host Tigers of East Texas Baptist University. She dug up 18 Tiger attack attempts, put up 23 assists for the offense and served three aces. Davis, who has been as tough an assignment for defenses as any other hitter in the league, kept that theme with 12 kills and also was responsible for three War Hawk blocks. Tiffin tallied 10 kills and two blocks.
Despite those impressive numbers, ETBU managed to use late-game magic in the first, third and fourth sessions to hold off their visitors 25-23, 27-25, 27-29, 28-26. Petree's team slipped to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in league action with the defeat.
McMurry remains on the road Wednesday, Sept. 28, traveling to Schreiner University in Kerrville, Tex. First serve is 6 p.m.
