ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Head Cross Country Coach Rexi Parcells announced a new addition to her coaching staff on Tuesday, naming Corey Koch to the position of assistant cross country coach.
Koch (pronounced "Cook") served the United States Air Force for over 14 years prior to his retirement from the military in 2021. He will begin his coaching career at McMurry this fall.
"I'm very excited for the opportunity to be a part of the McMurry team," said Koch. "I'd like to thank Coach (Rexi) Parcells and Coach (Cody) Knight for the opportunity to join the coaching world and to be a part of the family."
Before joining the Air Force, Koch lettered one season of cross country at Vincennes University in 2006. In high school from 2001-05, Koch was a two-time Indiana State Cross Country Qualifier and a three-time Indiana Regional Track Qualifier.
After one year of college at Vincennes, Koch began his military career. He went on to graduate from the College of the Air Force in 2018 with an associate's degree in criminal justice. In 2019, he was named the 569th Security Forces Squadron Employee of the Year.
"I am grateful to have someone of Corey's character joining our staff," said Parcells, who enters her fourth season as head coach. "He has a passion for the sport and years of professional military experience that will translate well to this profession. I am looking forward to watching him lead our young men and women in his new role."
Koch is originally from LaGrange, Indiana and now resides in Abilene with his wife Samantha and children Owen (9), Wyatt (7) and Stevie (8 months).
