MARSHALL, Texas – McMurry University Baseball was unable to snag one on the road Friday night, falling by scores of 8-0 and 14-7 in a doubleheader loss to East Texas Baptist University in American Southwest Conference play.
The War Hawks fall to 2-13 overall and 1-10 in the conference, while the Tigers moved to 14-6, 9-2.
Game 1: East Texas Baptist 8, McMurry 0
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead at the top of the first inning with a 3 RBI homer by ETBU's Carson Wilson.
The score would remain at the 3-0 mark for the next five innings as the sixth inning would be the next time a run would cross the plate.
At the bottom of the sixth, ETBU would score five runs to give the War Hawks an 8-0 deficit. The eight-run lead by the Tigers that would stand for the duration of the seven-inning contest.
Junior
Ryan Potter led the offense with two hits, while five additional War Hawks recorded a hit as well. The Tigers registered nine hits.

Game 2: East Texas Baptist 14, McMurry 7
The nightcap would be an exchange of punches early on as McMurry would post a run in the first inning. The Tigers would follow with the same result at the bottom of the first as well as the second.
Down 2-1, the War Hawks would gain some ground from a double to right field by junior
Nick Hamel to score
Mike Gonzales. Even at two-all, ETBU found a way to take back the lead with a run in the bottom of the third.
The Tigers would go on to post two runs in the fourth and fifth innings before the War Hawks would jump on the comeback train.
In the top of the sixth, McMurry would tack on five runs off of three hits to even up the playing field with ETBU.
Unfortunately, the number seven would not be so lucky for the War Hawks as the Tigers would tack on seven runs in in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 14-7 lead.
ETBU's lead would stand strong for the duration of the game, claiming the doubleheader sweep over McMurry.
The War Hawks posted eight hits in the nightcap. ETBU registered a game high of 14 hits. Junior
Mark Navarro led the team with three RBIs on one hit followed by two hits apiece from Gonzales, Hamel and
Sam Hillyer. Hamel, Potter and Hillyer also tallied an RBI in the bout.
