Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's and Women's Tennis was swept in a non-conference matchup Saturday against NCAA II competition at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks fell by identical 9-0 scores to St. Mary's University.
After eight rounds at No. 1 doubles, dynamic duo
Carlos Martinez and
Chase Daniell dropped their first matchup of the season. The pair fell in a tough battle against St. Mary's Jeremiah Sanchez and James Finnigan, 8-3.
Martinez would later find Sanchez on the other end of the net once more in No. 1 singles. Martinez was able to claim the first set, 6-2, but was unable to come away with the win, dropping the next two sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Notable matchup play also came from
Connor Hogan, who nearly snagged No. 4 singles after claiming the first set against Ryan Roth. Pushing the match to a tie-breaker, Roth was able to walk away with the point for the Rattlers, completing the defeat by a score of 7-5, 6-3, 10-3.
The women's tennis team suffered a clean sweep across the board by the Rattlers. The War Hawks were only able to capture a total of three game points in doubles and seven in singles.
Men's tennis moves to (3-6) while the women are now (3-5). Both squads will return to action in an American Southwest Conference matchup against Concordia on Saturday, March 27. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
